Welcome to Klikit-Linux!
.
What is Klikit-Linux?
Klikit-Linux is an informal project focused on developing a modern, free, user-friendly and fun Linux desktop.
It uses the well known, award winning KDE environment. It can run as a
LIVE SYSTEM (CD/DVD) on practically any PC (x86), and can be installed to your hard
drive in just a few minutes.
Klikit-Linux is
based on the latest stable releases of Ubuntu
and Kubuntu taking advantage of many of their best features, and then adds its own
touch, depending on the desires of the community. The release dates of Klikit-Linux will depend mainly on the stability of the
latest Ubuntu
and Kubuntu packages.
Klikit-Linux comes
with a collection of applications that will meet most of your daily
computer needs, such as office,
graphics, multimedia, and internet work.
Klikit-Linux is
a true
community-driven
project. You and the community are, and will always
be, the main voice behind most decisions that are taken building this O.S.
Klikit-Linux is
and always
will be completely free,
You will be able to
use it, modify it, distribute it, and do whatever you want with it. You
will always
have the freedom of
choice.

What is happening with Klikit-Linux?
I
am still working as much and as fast as possible on the new version of
Klikit-Linux, which I consider is a very ambitious and complete project. This version
will include the latest stable versions of Gnome and KDE. Both
enviroments will seamlessly be integrated with the same feel and
look (based mostly on the current look of KDE4).
There will be a very special selection of the programs included, trying
to choose mainly those that are cross-platform/multi-platform, not only with the
included desktop enviroments, but if possible also with the MS Windows and Apple Mac
platforms.
This release will include legally most of the codecs/libraries needed to run practically any multimedia file.
Because of all the work involved I had to skip the last 2 versions of
Klikit-Linux based on the Intrepid and the Jaunty cores. The last version
of Klikit-Linux was based on the Hardy core. This coming version will
be based mainly in the Karmic core, and should be very easily upgradable to the Lynx core.
As soon as this version is ready I will post about it. keep an eye on
the bar below to get an idea of the current progress, I will be
updating it week by week.
In
the next few days I will update the screenshots in this page, to include some from the coming version.
I'm also planning on starting
a blog to keep everybody up to date with a more detailed progress.
very likely as I approach to the release of the new version, I will also
start a new Forum, and leave the current one just as reference.
(the current forums are full of bugs and problems, and practically beyond a stable repair)
